Gilbrdyke v Barlby Raiders
BRFC U7's claimed two clean sheets against a very well organised Gilberdyke side. In match 1, James Atkinson was in inspired form, putting together a series of excellent saves. The only goal of the game came in the 2nd half where George Harrison converted a penalty after Gilberdyke conceded a foul in the area after an excellent Barlby build up. Barlby remained resolute through to the final whistle.
Game 2 saw James Atkinson move into defence with Harry McGuire taking over between the sticks. Solid defending was again on display and despite several attempts on goal Barlby could not find the breakthrough. Match action is displayed in the slide show below:
Methley V Barlby Raiders
Playing with the wind and bright sunshine in their backs, Barlby Raiders (U13s) kicked off and matched Methley in a hard fought and close first half.
But just before the 20th minute, Methley’s tall and quick centre forward broke through Barlby’s defence and netted for a 1-0 lead. Undeterred and with some great saves from Jo, Barlby kept their shape and within 5 minutes got even through an excellent penalty slotted home by Joe Burrows.
But with the change of ends came a change of fortunes. Barlby faced the wind, dazzling sunshine and a Number 6 centre forward who seemingly grew in confidence and height with every touch of the ball. Methley took full advantage of the conditions and eventually ran out 9-1 winners.
Garforth Rangers v Barlby Raiders
In a match played in very high winds Raiders found themselves 3 – 0 down to an excellent Garforth Rangers team playing with the wind at their backs.
The second half was much different and despite conceding a 4th Barlby launched attack after attack. Jack Johnson scored on 60 mins before a quick fire brace from Luke Rippon on 70 mins and Chris Manikowski on 72 mins. Despite strong pressure the equaliser would not come. Man of the match was Finn Northrop with an excellent display at the back.
